A Time of Renewal

A Time of Renewal

Autumn is a wonderful time of year. For many years I always hated Fall. It meant the end of summer, the messy leaves, the cold wind and finally the beginning of a long, cold winter. It wasn’t until I moved to North Carolina that I began to see how beautiful the colored leaves actually were. The gentle kiss of the cooler weather after weeks of heat and humidity was a welcome relief. The truth is, Autumn is the perfect time for reflection and renewal. Instead of viewing Fall as the time of death and dying, wouldn’t it be great to see this as an opportunity to put to rest bad habits, procrastination and weakness? Instead of concentrating on negative thoughts and self destructive thinking, what would your Autumn days look like if you focused on positive thinking, mindfulness and the art of self-control? With today’s hectic lifestyles, continual bombardment of distracting emails, texts and social media announcements, how can any sane person get in touch with their inner awareness of their spiritual selves? This is not new age mumbo jumbo. If you don’t take control over your thoughts, your health and your time, then you are essentially allowing diversions, abstractions and abstractedness to keep you from being the successful, accomplished, and life-giving person that God created. As you rake the leaves this month and fire up the furnace, remember that the season of Autumn can provide you with not only beautiful pictures and long sleeve shirts, but it has the potential to bring you around to living a life of purpose and fulfillment well beyond your imagination.

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

Isaiah 40:8
