Hallelujah Acres discourages the consuming of cows milk, and as a result, we are often asked if we can recommend dairy free vegan recipes as a substitute. Well, Sandy, who lives in Michigan, sent in recipe inspo for milk made from rice. Sandy writes: "Dr. Malkmus, Your ministry is such a blessing to us! Following is a recipe for Rice Milk that I use instead of Almond Milk. My 5-year old has Crohn's disease and can't eat anything containing nuts."
Ingredients
3/4 cup Brown Rice
6 cups purified Water
1 tablespoon real Vanilla
Raw Honey to taste
Pinch of Celtic Sea Salt
Directions
Put rice and water in cooking pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours. Take off burner and add other ingredients. When cooled, place everything in a blender and blend at high speed until liquid milk forms. You may have to add more water to get proper consistency. If you would like a chocolate flavor, a tablespoon of carob may be added. ENJOY!" (Because this is a cooked food recipe, we can only give it a three-star rating.)
