Most people already know the story of how God created the heavens and the earth. He made all the animals and the people and everything was good (see Genesis 1 & 2 for the whole story). We read with wonder at how that He made the sun and the moon. Then with sheepish grins, we come to an embarrassing truth. The man and woman were naked in the garden (Genesis 2:25).
What Has All This Got To Do With Vitamin D?
Plenty! Sun exposure on the skin has been God’s natural provision for vitamin D both in the garden some 6,000 years ago to today!
God knew what He was doing! As we have recently learned, UVB rays from the sun provide the most effective, most reliable, most abundant, most natural source of vitamin D.
Vitamin D sufficiency, along with proper diet and exercise, has been shown to be the most important preventative factors in human health. Hundreds of studies link vitamin D deficiency with significantly higher rates of many forms of cancer, as well as heart disease, osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis, and numerous other diseases.
Sunlight Has Been Given A Bad Rap
For years we have been told by the so-called experts of our day that we must avoid the sun's rays that God allowed to fall upon Adam and Eve. These experts tell us that sun exposure can lead not only to skin cancer, but also premature aging of the skin (wrinkles), cataracts, and more.
It is important for everyone to understand that the dangers of sun exposure have been greatly exaggerated and the benefits of sun exposure greatly underestimated.
God designed the human body to receive daily exposure to the sun’s rays for numerous reasons. For one thing, the sun provides the body with building materials needed to produce vitamin D, one of the most basic and important elements the body needs.
If you still believe the sun’s rays are dangerous, it is imperative that you reevaluate your thinking. Continue to shun the sun's rays and you could needlessly experience numerous physical problems — problems you can avoid if you enjoy the sun.
It is Important to Avoid Sunburn
While it is important that we expose our skin to the sun to obtain our vitamin D, we must not overexpose our bodies to the sun’s rays. This can indeed be dangerous.
By the way, did you know that numerous people who sunburned very easily before adopting The Hallelujah Diet report that they now find it almost impossible to burn?
My wife, Rhonda, is an example. Before adopting The Hallelujah Diet, she would develop severe blisters and even sunstroke after just a short time in the sun. But since being on The Hallelujah Diet she sometimes spends the entire day in the sun helping me in the garden.
What has made the difference in her body’s reaction to the sun?
The key factor in the cause of sunburn is a lack of sufficient antioxidants. Raw fruits and vegetables - especially vegetable juices and BarleyMax - are loaded with antioxidants, while the Standard American Diet is almost totally devoid of them.
If you are a person who has previously allowed your skin limited access to the sun, try this. Next spring or summer, begin exposure to the sun slowly, say 10 to 15 minutes a day. Then, progressively increase your time in the sun over the next few weeks.
Interestingly, while some medical experts warn people to avoid the sun in order to prevent skin cancer, there is good evidence that sun exposure without burning actually decreases the potential of developing it.
Vitamin D Helps Protect the Body from Numerous Diseases
Vitamin D is entirely different from all other vitamins. Technically, it is a prohormone your body produces from the good kind of cholesterol your body produces naturally. Being a prohormone, vitamin D influences the entire body. Receptors that respond to this hormone are found in almost every cell within the body.
When a person receives regular exposure to the UVB rays of the sun, the vitamin D levels of the body are increased. Studies show these increased levels of vitamin D help protect the body from numerous diseases:
- Many types of cancer
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Autoimmune disease
- Osteoporosis and even depression
- Adopt a mostly raw, 100% plant based diet (like The Hallelujah Diet)
- Remove all refined sugar from the diet (sugar is an immune suppressant)
- Aerobically exercise the body daily
- Obtain adequate rest
- Avoid stress as much as possible
- If you can't get enough sunshine to produce adequate vitamin D
take a daily vitamin D3 supplement.
