Make your own apple butter in a crockpot - it's easy and delicious, especially when apples are in season. Bonus: the whole house smells like apples and cinnamon!

Ingredients:
8-10 apples, peeled, cored and sliced (preferably Granny Smith)
1 cup apple juice (raw works best, but bottled works as well) *
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

Directions:

  1. Combine in a crock pot the apples first, then spices, pour apple juice over all and stir to distribute.
  2. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours.
  3. Stir often to help the apples break down.
  4. Uncover and cook on high for 2 more hours to reduce liquid.
  5. Cook as long as you need to get the right consistency. Makes about 2 cups.

* NOTE: Fresh raw apple juice is best.
