Staying Up Too Late is Damaging Your Health

There is always so much to do throughout the day, and it’s easy to fall into the pattern of staying up too late and then having a hard time dragging yourself out of bed in the morning. Are you following good sleep patterns? If you are sacrificing your sleep time for other activities, then it is likely that you are damaging your health. “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” is a common saying among our culture, but the truth is that insufficient sleep might actually be leading you to a shorter life. If you want to improve your health, then you need to evaluate your sleep patterns and make changes to ensure that you are getting plenty of sleep each night. Most people need an average of eight hours per night.

Good Sleep Patterns

In addition to the amount of sleep that you are getting, it is also important to consider the time of day that you are sleeping. Try to get at least two hours of sleep before midnight, or even three if possible. Each hour of sleep that happens before midnight is equivalent to two hours of sleep after midnight. Additionally, the hours between 1 and 3 am are very important, because these hours are the time when the body is able to do the deep cleansing that is needed for optimal health. Cleansing gets rid of the waste and toxic compounds that can contribute to health problems such as cancer and other chronic illnesses, so you need to maximize your sleep during these hours.

Why Sleep is so Important?

When you are following good sleeping patterns, you are supporting the major organs within your body. It is important that you are supporting your kidneys and liver to optimize waste removal and cleansing functions, and the best way to support these organs is with high quality sleep. When you are asleep, the body is able to rebuild, cleanse, and re-set the functions that are maintaining your health and protecting you from illness and disease.

Improving Sleep Habits

Here are a few things that you can do to improve your sleep habits:
  • Stay consistent with your bedtime during the week and on the weekends
  • Go outside and get fresh air every day
  • Improve your diet to eat clean and stay away from junk food
  • Exercise every day, even if it is just a little bit of movement
