Hi ladies, Ann here.
Anyone who knows me is well aware that I'm a big fan of Dr. Christiane Northrup (MD). She's the world’s leading authority in the field of women’s health and wellness.
I've appreciated Dr. Northrup's articles over the last few years as I have ventured through menopause. She really knows what she's talking about.
So, I was searching through some articles of hers the other day and stumbled upon something that I wish I knew years ago — and something I think every woman of every age needs to know right now — about iodine!
If you're into natural ways to stay healthy, you already know that iodine is a hot topic when it comes to thyroid problems. And since we ladies suffer from thyroid difficulties more often than men, many women already have iodine in their collection of supplements.
But get this... Iodine can also help with breast pain!
Now, we're not just talking about breast pain associated with breast cancer (although iodine has a benefit here, too... we'll get to that in a minute). Iodine can help with everyday breast pain.
According to research, when given molecular iodine at 0.07 to 0.09 mg/kg of body weight, test subjects felt healthier and also eliminated breast pain from fibrocystic changes about 70% of the time.
In another study, more than half of women with breast pain who took 6 mg of iodine daily reported a "significant reduction" in overall breast pain.
In fact, asserts Dr. Northrup, "If you have breast pain, it’s likely you aren’t getting enough iodine." Iodine has been used to prevent and treat fibrocystic breast disease, and even to prevent and treat breast cancer.
Dr. David M. Derry agrees. He wrote a book called "Breast Cancer and Iodine". Here's what one reader of that book had to say about her experience with breast disease and iodine:
"Since I got breast cancer five years ago I have been taking the iodine and optimum doses of thyroid with wonderful effects on my health and well-being. My previously extensive fibrocystic disease has disappeared. Thank you, Dr. Derry for having the courage and foresight to publish this remarkable book. I am living proof that it works!" ~ Frankie Staples, RNHallelujah Acres offers two kinds of iodine, a tablet and a liquid. The tablet, called Iodoral, is a high potency iodine / potassium iodide supplement that contains 5 mg of iodine and 7.5 mg of iodide (as potassium salt) per tablet. The liquid is called Iosol. Although its potency is lower than Iodoral, it may be more absorbable as it is made using a special process to create a water soluble iodine compound. The subject of iodine is a fascinating one, not just for breast health, but whole body health. You can read all about it in a special report written called "Recent Advances in Iodine Nutrition" by Dr. Michael Donaldson, Hallelujah Acres Research Director.
