How Vitamin D Beats Psoriasis

How Vitamin D Beats Psoriasis

Recently, vitamin D has been gaining popularity as psoriasis treatment method. And it's a method that makes sense. On the surface (no pun intended), psoriasis is a disease characterized by skin inflammation, and vitamin D helps to tone down that inflammation. But psoriasis is not just a skin disease... and vitamin D is more than a skin remedy. You see, when ailments appear on our skin, it's a built-in, God-given indicator to let us know that something is not right inside the body. Psoriasis is not a localized thing; it's systemic, though it may appear as just a few random patches on the skin. In fact, psoriasis has been noted by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an indicator for increased risk of high blood pressure. The WHO actually recommends that healthcare professionals routinely scan psoriasis patients for high blood pressure, which is also a serious risk factor for heart disease. Not to mention, people with psoriasis have twice the risk of developing diabetes and are also at higher risk for developing metabolic syndrome (a group of risk factors that raises a person's risk of developing diabetes and heart problems). Who would have thought psoriasis came with baggage like that! However, what's very interesting to note is that all of these diseases are inflammation-based — and vitamin D deficiency is strongly associated with each one of them! This is why vitamin D is so important. It regulates inflammation throughout the entire body... not just on the skin. In short, pay attention to psoriasis because it may be an indicator of something much more serious. And if you choose to use vitamin D as a psoriasis treatment method — whether through carefully monitored sun exposure or a vitamin D3 supplement — you'll be reducing your risk of those serious ailments at the same time.
