Help your self-healing body fight cancer

Help your self-healing body fight cancer

October is Breast and Liver Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of those who have survived or lost their lives from cancer, and to all their loved ones, our team at the Hallelujah Diet dedicates our days to finding healthy, sustainable solutions in hopes that fewer and fewer families face this deadly disease. We strive to educate, inform and effect change so, together, we can all live our lives vibrantly and blissfully. To anybody touched by cancer, your thoughts are with us today—and every day. According to the American Cancer Society, about 585,720 Americans are expected to die of cancer in 2014. By this year’s end, there will be an estimate 1,665,540 new cases of cancer. In 1975, the incidence rate for all cancers combined in the U.S. was 400 new cases for every 100,000 people. By 2011, that number shot up to 460.4 per 100,000 people. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the U.S. after heart disease, yet studies and researchers have pointed to the fact that a great amount of cancer cases can be prevented. A third of all cancer deaths in the U.S. are linked to diet and physical activity, including obesity, while another third is caused by smoking tobacco products. If cancer can be largely prevented, why are there many types of cancers that are still rampant? On top of the reduction of smoking since the 1970s, there also have been many cancers treated or reduced through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. However, the survival rates are still low. Why? Although we have more medical advancements and resources to support cancer research, the prevalence of processed foods, chemical-laced packaging, exposure to radiation, modernized farming practices, pollution in the water and in the air, and many other factors have increased toxicity in the things we consume, apply and breathe in. For example, farms now grow foods with pesticides and herbicides for mass-production and preservation purposes. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency classifies 90% of fungicides, 60% of herbicides and 30% of insecticides to be carcinogenic. According to a February 2014 Australian study, spontaneous cancer cells develop in the human body every day and are quickly killed by the immune system. To keep our immune system as robust as possible, we need to keep toxin levels low and continuously feed all of the 300 trillion cells with exceptional nutrients every single day. When the nutrition level is low, our cells become weak and are more susceptible to unhealthy division, which may trigger a process that eventually turns them into cancer cells. There are many causes of cancer, including genetics, but there is very strong evidence that points to the value of solid nutritional therapy, whether using it as a standalone treatment, or to accompany more traditional approaches. In short, a healthy, plant-based diet and supplementation paired with consistent detoxification can be the miracle treatment to prevent or combat cancer. Especially in today’s times when toxicity is widespread and part of our daily lives, it is of critical importance we take special care in nourishing our bodies and removing accumulated toxins. How can a plant-based diet help prevent cancer? There has been overwhelming evidence that committing to a plant-based diet is key to optimizing cancer prevention and management. For example, in a study titled “Vegetarian Diets and the Incidence of Cancer in a Low-risk Population” in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, the study authors concluded, “Vegetarian diets seem to confer protection against cancer” and “a vegan diet seems to confer lower risk for overall and female-specific cancer than other dietary patterns.” Plants provide incredible benefits in multiple ways. They are packed with vitamins and minerals that help repair DNA and control cell growth. Plants are also chock full of natural compounds called phytochemicals, many of which are antioxidants that help protect and repair DNA. Other components, such as fiber, have been linked to lower colon cancer risk, while whole, low-fat foods have more of an indirect effect by controlling weight gain. These are just some of the many ways in which plants help nourish, heal, safeguard and revitalize your body’s cells. In an interview for the Huffington Post, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Professor Emeritus of Cornell University, stated: “ nutrients from animal-based foods, especially the protein, promote the development of the cancer whereas the nutrients from plant-based foods, especially the antioxidants, reverse the promotion stage. This is a very promising observation because cancer proceeds forward or backward as a function of the balance of promoting and anti-promoting factors found in the diet, thus consuming anti-promoting plant-based foods tend to keep the cancer from going forward, perhaps even reversing the promotion.” The Hallelujah Diet has spent decades upon decades drawing from research, conducting clinical studies and listening to our community about how nutrition has been a vital shield and weapon against cancer. Our holistic plant-based diet and supplementation program, along with rest, exercise and stress management, has seen countless of successful battles against cancer.
“In October 2008, just two years after refusing chemotherapy treatments and adopting the Hallelujah Diet, I went to see an oncologist who insisted I have an MRI, a CAT scan, and a bone scan. All three failed to show any cancer.” –Jan L., Stage 3 Cancer Recovery

A few notes on what to avoid: Protein from animal sources, particularly meat and dairy, has been linked to increased cancer risk. Animal proteins change the levels of the IGF-I, a growth hormone that affects both healthy and cancer cells. Eating red and processed meat (salted, cured, smoked, or treated with preservatives) has been strongly connected to colon cancer specifically. High-sugar, high-fat foods, while might not directly cause cancer, can cause other unhealthy side effects, notably weight gain, which can lead to cancer-causing diabetes and obesity. Also, a high quantity of sugar consumption has been linked to a greater risk of esophageal cancer. Studies have shown that consuming more than 2,400 milligrams of sodium a day may increase the risk of stomach cancer. In its Report on Carcinogens, the National Toxicology Program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services lists alcohol as a human carcinogen. Numerous studies have linked artificial sweeteners to cancer. Avoid water that’s been treated with fluoride or chlorine, as they can create toxic disinfection byproducts shown to cause cancer. Although research is not definite, it is still controversial. Avoid canned foods and plastic containers, as they are laced bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical that disrupts the endocrine and is strongly linked to cancer. Avoid cookware with non-stick coating, which contains perfluorooctanoic acid and other compounds that may cause toxin buildup in your body over time and lead to cancer. Many household cleaning products are formulated with many cancer-causing agents. Stick with reputable natural & organic brands or make your own cleaning products with vinegar, water, baking soda and essential oils. Skincare and personal care products contain preservatives, fragrances and other chemicals that are linked to cancer and a host of other health problems. When you can, go the completely safe route. Equip your body to build a strong immune system. What We Recommend: To simplify the process for you, we put together a Cancer Get Started Kit. Vitamin D Spend some time under the sun or take vitamin D supplements. In an analysis of data from more than 100 countries, higher levels of solar UVB – a source of vitamin D – has been shown to decrease the risk of 15 types of cancer. Bio Curcumin Based upon the research of Dr. Bharat Aggarwal, who headed the 12-member team of researchers at University of Texas (U.T) M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the use of Curcumin, the biologically active extract of the Turmeric spice can help supply the body with an abundance of free radical fighting nutrients that may help protect the body from various types of cancer. Liposomal Vitamin C Hallelujah Diet Liposomal Vitamin C is a lipid-encapsulated form of vitamin C, which means it is absorbed directly into the bloodstream, then into the cells, as a vesicle of fat without going through the digestive process. This results in a far higher delivery of vitamin C than you do by just taking vitamin C by itself. Vitamin C is excellent for cardiovascular and immune system support and prevents free-radical damage, which is known to trigger cancer cells.
