Connection Between Diet and Type 2 Diabetes

The Connection between Diet and Type 2 Diabetes

Did you know that your daily dietary habits have a direct impact on the risk of developing many types of diseases? If you are following an unhealthy diet, then you are increasing your risk of illness and disease, including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and more.

Diabetes is on the Rise

The prevalence of diabetes is increasing each year, and there is strong evidence which shows that type-2 diabetes can be prevented and controlled with dietary changes. When a person consumes too much sugar and refined carbohydrates, it spikes the blood sugar levels and causes the body to react by releasing insulin from the pancreas. If the body is constantly supplying insulin to combat poor dietary choices, then it can cause a domino effect of metabolic problems that lead to the development of type 2 diabetes. High sugar consumption can also impact the development of obesity and hormonal disruptions. Unfortunately, many of these health concerns are becoming more common. A large percentage of the population is following an unhealthy diet, because they don’t realize that their daily choices are increasing their risk of these diseases.

Cutting Sugar from Your Diet

If you want to avoid life-threatening diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and type-2 diabetes, then one of the best thing that you can do is eliminate refined sugar from your diet. Added sugar is found in many processed foods that you can buy at the grocery store, including crackers, salad dressing, sauces, cereal, granola bars, and more. Take a walk through the aisles at the grocery store and turn over each box to see the ingredient list. You will notice that most foods have some type of sugar added. Start by eliminating the sugar in your house. Go through the cupboards and get rid of anything that is sugary or sweet. Make a goal to stay away from these foods, and satisfy your cravings with healthier alternatives instead. Look for healthy dessert recipes that you can make at home, allowing you to enjoy a sweet treat without the refined sugar. We have a variety of recipes here on our website for you to try, and you can also find more healthy recipes in our Unravel the Mystery Recipe Book.
