What Does The Bible Say About Health?

What Does The Bible Say About Health?

Let me say at the outset, and before we go any further – the Bible has a lot to say about the subject of “health”. I will begin with a verse that talks about “health”, found way back in the book of Exodus, Chapter 15 and verse 26, written around 1491 B.C:
“If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and will do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all His statutes, I WILL PUT NONE OF THESE DISEASES UPON THEE, which I HAVE BROUGHT UPON THE EGYPTIANS: for I am the Lord that HEALETH THEE”

Hallelujah Acres Teaches Health From A Biblical Perspective

Here is a recent letter from a subscriber who wrote about this Biblical emphasis:
“Over the years I’ve attended several of George Malkmus’ seminars and conferences and always Jesus was at the center of his work and motivation. I believe that as Christians we are called to different ministries and are given different gifts of the Holy Spirit. With Rev. Malkmus, I believe God has called him to minister to us by educating us on how to take proper care of our bodies, temples of the Holy Spirit, and teach us to make God-honoring choices in what we eat and that we get proper exercise, etc. That’s his calling from the Lord and overall Rev. Malkmus has done a pretty good job. Actually, a tremendous job!” ~ Carley
Ever since Hallelujah Acres had its beginning in 1992, over 20 years ago, we have been sharing and teaching health from a Biblical perspective. In fact, the Bible is the basis for all our teachings. “I will praise thee: for I am fearfully and WONDERFULLY MADE. . . .” (Psalm 139:14)

Jesus' Ministry Promoted Health

When you study the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, one thing that becomes immediately apparent – Jesus was a healer of the sick. In fact, as you study the earthly ministry of Christ, you find that before Jesus ever spoke to anyone about their spiritual needs, He first dealt with their physical needs. In fact, He often used the physical problems the people were experiencing as the means of drawing the multitudes to Himself so that He could minister to their spiritual needs. If Jesus was concerned about the sick and was a healer of the sick, obviously physical health must have been considered of vital importance to Him. Consider what the Bible has to say concerning “health” in this verse found in the New Testament in I John 3:2:
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in HEALTH, EVEN AS THY SOUL PROSPERETH.”
In other words, Jesus wants our physical bodies to be just as whole, and healthy, as our spiritual souls. Yet, during the over 2,000-year history of Christianity, while church leaders have emphasized the spiritual part and spiritual needs of man, they have been woefully ignoring the physical body and the physical health of the Christian community. And worse yet, church leaders have even suggested that the physical body is EVIL. This teaching of the physical body being EVIL is so far from the truth! Listen to what the Bible has to say about the physical body God has given each of us to dwell in while here on earth, as found in I Corinthians 3:16-17:
“Know ye not that YE ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD, and that the SPIRIT OF GOD dwelleth in you? If any man defile the TEMPLE OF GOD, him shall God destroy; for the TEMPLE OF GOD IS HOLY, WHICH TEMPLE YE ARE.”
And in Romans 12:1-2 we are further told:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye PRESENT YOUR BODIES A LIVING SACRIFICE, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service, and BE NOT CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD . . . . .”
So, according to the Bible, our bodies are not only "not" evil, but according to the Bible the exact opposite – our bodies are the “TEMPLE OF GOD” and are to be treated as such. Scriptures tell us that we are not to defile the TEMPLE OF GOD, and we are not to CONFORM OUR BODIES TO THE WAYS OF THIS WORLD.

What Can We Learn From Daniel Regarding These Bodies?

In the first chapter of Daniel, we learn how Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah refused to defile their bodies with the rich foods coming from the king’s table:
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the Eunuchs. And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord and king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? Then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king. THEN SAID DANIEL to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, PROVE THY SERVANTS, I BESEECH THEE, TEN DAYS; AND LET THEM GIVE US PULSE (VEGETABLES ONLY) TO EAT, AND WATER TO DRINK. Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children who eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. And at the end of ten days THEIR COUNTENANCE APPEARED FAIRER AND FATTER THAN ALL THE CHILDREN WHICH DID EAT THE PORTION OF THE KING’S MEAT. Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that thou should drink; and gave them pulse (vegetables). “Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, Then the prince of the eunuchs bought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hanahiah, Mishael, and Azariah . . . . And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them TEN TIMES BETTER than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.”
Please notice that at the end of the ten-day trial period on this pure plant based diet, they were judged by the king to be “TEN TIMES BETTER than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. The Bible also tells us that:
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” ~ I Corinthians 10:31
And in Psalm 103:1-5, the Lord is seen as a source of blessings; provider of benefits; forgiver of sin; healer of diseases; provider of redemption, provider of “loving kindness and tender mercies:’ and also as the one “WHO SATISFIETH THY MOUTH WITH GOOD THINGS; so taht they youth is renewed like the eagle's.” We should see God as not only a source of redemption, love, and mercy, but also as a source of proper nourishment so that we can keep our body temples in good health, for He has provided us with all the things necessary to keep the body in excellent health. Indeed, when He placed his first human creation Adam in that Garden of Eden, God was providing man with all the nutritional needs of the bodyraw fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts. See Genesis 1:29 to see what God told Adam he was to eat in order to sustain and maintain his physical body in excellent Health:
“AND GOD SAID, behold, I have given you every herb (vegetable) bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; TO YOU IT SHALL BE FOR FOOD.”
These raw fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts, provided Adam with every essential component of a healthy diet – including vitamins, minerals, amino acids (protein), enzymes, carbohydrates, fats, water, and fiber. There is no other food group that provides all these essential nutrients. No other food or nutrient has ever been found, manufactured, synthesized, or advertised that can come even close to the nutritional value of the Genesis 1:29 diet, which was given to us by God – the very Creator of our bodies. You could spend years studying the more than 100 essential nutrients found in raw fruits and vegetables, along with how they act and interact in the human body, to increase your reverence and respect for the wisdom of God’s Original Genesis 1:29 diet. Or you could just bite into a fresh fruit or vegetable and use your child-like faith to know its nourishment is part of God’s plan for a healthy body temple, and give thanks to our Creator God for His wonderful provision. Even a child-like understanding can appreciate the difference between a fresh, living apple made by God and a tin can or box full of dead, processed foods and chemicals manufactured by man. It was in 1976, at the age of 42, when told I had colon cancer, that I started paying attention to what God had to say about diet and lifestyle. It was then, almost 39 years ago, that I allowed God’s Original Genesis 1:29 diet to “satisfy my mouth with good things" so that my youth was "renewed like the eagle's." (Psalm 103:5) Since 1976 I have never looked back – I’m still on this Genesis 1:29 diet at the age of soon to be 81 years, and to my dying day I will continue to nourish my body the way God designed, and in keeping with what God told Adam to eat in Genesis 1:29. At Hallelujah Acres, we teach health from a Biblical perspective. We teach how God designed us to be nourished according to the Bible in Genesis 1:29. This teaching may sound very strange to people who have been programmed by the world’s system – but multitudes are experiencing in their own bodies that what we teach here at Hallelujah Acres is indeed truth and that it does work. In fact, it works so well that if all Christians would adopt this diet we could practically eliminate the many prayer requests for sickness in our churches. If you have not given God’s way of nourishing your physical body a try, click here to give it a try! Next week, the good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high we will return with another exciting issue of the Hallelujah Health Tip. Trust you will join us and that you will share these Health Tips with friends and loved ones.

I loved all the information you have in your article. It blessed me so much. We hear very little about this in our church.

Loved today’s message – Thank you! It would be wonderful to have at least a few “events” during the year where we could bring others needing the H. Diet. I live in the greater Charlotte area and miss your regular Saturday events! s/Jan Wright, Health Minister
