How Many Vegetables Should You Eat for Cancer Prevention?

Everyone knows that they should be eating their vegetables each day, but unfortunately many people don’t consume very many vegetables because they choose processed foods instead. These poor dietary choices can have a negative impact on your health, and it has been found that the consumption of vegetables has a direct connection with preventing a number of health problems, including cancer, heart disease, and many other chronic illnesses.

Why are Vegetables so Important for Your Health?

Raw vegetables are super foods that provide your body with the healthy nutrients and compounds that are needed for optimal wellness. When you eat these foods, you will be getting plenty of enzymes, carotenoids, phytochemicals, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. All of these things are used for the natural healing functions within the body, to support your major organs and contribute to overall health and wellness. Vegetables provide the important antioxidants that work to clean up free radicals and get rid of cancer cells. This antioxidant activity can be very beneficial for people who are recovering from cancer or anyone who would like to prevent cancer.

How to Eat More Vegetables

The best approach is to eat a variety of vegetables, because different vegetables will provide your body with different nutrients. Raw, leafy, green vegetables are the most important, because they are very nutrient dense and they provide the chlorophyll that is needed to help your body overcome cancer-causing free radicals that are present. When you are recovering from cancer or working to prevent cancer, the best approach is to eat at least 15 to 20 servings of vegetables each day. With vegetable consumption, the more the better! The easiest way to increase your vegetable consumption is with fresh, raw vegetable juices that you can drink throughout the day. There are many other ways that you can incorporate vegetables into your cooking as well. If your taste buds are acclimated to the Standard American Diet, then it is possible that vegetables might taste unpleasant. But, be patient with yourself and continue making these dietary changes. When you cut the sugary and salty foods and eat vegetables instead, your taste buds will begin to change and you will find that vegetables can become quite delicious!
