The Best Diet for the 21st Century

There are many diets out there that claim to help a person lose weight, but which ones improve health? And which ones do so for a lifetime? The answers may surprise you!
For the past five Health Tips I have been sharing the positive and negative aspects of various diets. The basis for my analysis of each diet in this series has been in going back to God’s Original Diet as found in Genesis 1:29 and then comparing it to present day diets to see how each compares. My belief is God's dietary instruction to Adam in Genesis 1:29 was not only the perfect diet to fuel Adam’s and then Eve’s body, but because we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, made of similar genetic material, this diet (with only minor modification) remains the perfect diet to fuel our bodies in this 21st century in which we live. In order to compare the various diets of today to God’s Original Genesis 1:29 Diet let's consider each diet a rung on an imaginary ladder, beginning with the worst diet on the bottom rung and going to best diet on the top rung. On the bottom rung, we placed the Standard American Diet (SAD), which I believe to be the most dangerous diet available to us today and the cause of most of the physical problems being experienced today. It is also the most expensive diet and the diet that causes the vast majority of all physical problems. Then, we shared what made the SAD diet the most dangerous of all diets. In following Health Tips, we slowly moved up the ladder, revealing less harmful diets including cooked plant-based diets and all-raw plant-based diets. In today's Health Tip, we have finally arrived at the top rung. In this top rung position, instead of God’s Original Diet, I have placed The Hallelujah Diet. Interestingly, The Hallelujah Diet is not the closest diet available today to God’s Original Diet because the all-raw diet is the closest, but there is a reason: in the day in which we live, an all-raw diet fails to give the best results. Following is the reason why the all-raw diet fails to give the best results – I go beyond dogma, history, and theory and straight to results!

The Law of Sowing and Reaping

For the past five Health Tips we have used the Genesis 1:29 diet as the ultimate diet and discussed how modern day diets compare to that original diet as the criteria for each diet's worth. Now we are going to use different criteria to judge each diet: What kind of health-related results does each diet produce in the body? We are going to use God’s law of sowing and reaping as our testing mechanism in order to help us further determine placement on our imaginary ladder, which will require some adjustment in rung position. Let’s look to the Bible for an explanation:
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man (or woman) soweth, that shall he (or she) also reap.” Galatians 6:7
With this additional criteria for rung placement on our imaginary ladder, we need to look at the track record of each diet in order to see what kind of health-related results each diet produces.

Standard American Diet

Track record, as far as what the Standard American Diet (SAD) produces regarding the health of the body, is horrible! Interestingly, though we supposedly have the best health care system in the world and spend the most on health care of all nations in the world, Americans are the sickest people in the world. So this diet deserves bottom rung placement not only for being the furthest from God’s Original Diet, but also for producing the poorest health. The Standard American Diet contains abundant amounts of animal source foods, which contain artery clogging fat, in addition to abundant, immune system suppressing sugar and refined grains (which convert quickly to sugar). Any diet that contains an abundance of flesh, dairy, sugar, and refined grains qualifies for bottom rung or near bottom rung placement on our imaginary ladder. Whether or not a diet causes weight loss has nothing to do with health results, although a truly healthy diet will automatically normalize weight. On the bottom rungs of this ladder are the Atkins Diet, Maker’s Diet, the Blood Type Diet, Zone Diet, South Beach Diet, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc. Many of these diets are primarily weight loss diets. While some work, they fall short in terms of producing overall health. The Mediterranean diet is an exception to most of the above diets because it is rich in heart-healthy fiber and nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and generally includes fruits, vegetables, and unsaturated "good" fats, particularly olive oil. These facts place the Mediterranean Diet on a higher rung than the other diets we have evaluated.

High Cooked Food Diets & All Raw Diets

Diets in the highly cooked food category include The McDougall Diet, the Dean Ornish Diet and the Macrobiotic Diet. These diets, except for the Macrobiotic Diet sit on a higher rung on our imaginary ladder because they do not contain any animal source foods, sugar, or refined grains. Because of this, they produce a far healthier body than the lower rung diets. All raw diets such as the Natural Hygiene and Hippocrates Diet, though closer to God’s Original Genesis 1:29 Diet — and should produce the greatest degree of health — fail because, in today’s world, they produce some problems. We discussed some of those problems in last week’s Health Tip.

God's Original Diet In The Beginning Produced Health Bodies

As far as sowing and reaping is concerned, consider God’s Original Genesis 1:29 Diet, the diet Adam and Eve consumed in the Garden of Eden in the beginning. It is interesting to note that even though Adam and Eve sinned and were driven from the garden, there is no indication that their health was affected. This same Genesis 1:29 Diet then continued to be the exclusive diet of mankind from the time of man's expulsion from the garden up until the flood, a period of approximately 1,700 years. On this 100% plant-based diet, during those 1,700 years, there is not a single recorded instance of sickness, while man lived to an average age of 912, the average age of patriarchs at death. Then came a flood which covered all garden foods, destroying man's ability to continue consuming the garden foods God originally instructed man to consume. With garden foods no longer available, God comes to man’s rescue in Genesis 9:3 by providing flesh from the clean animals that were on the ark. I believe God allowed man to consume this flesh food for survival purposes, not because there was some nutritional lack in God’s Original Genesis 1:29 Diet, but because there was nothing else to eat. Interestingly, it was only after God allowed flesh to be added to God’s Original Genesis 1:29 Diet (and the cooking of food began at about the same time) that sickness began to manifest in the human race. As man deviated further and further from God’s Original Diet, sickness increased.

Animal Based Diets Produce Abundant Sickness

The fat in an animal-based diet clogs arteries, causing diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, and resulting stents and by-passes. The acidity in animal-based diets causes osteoporosis, arthritis, acid stomach, heartburn and more. The damaged protein in cooked animal foods causes and feeds cancer. The putrefying flesh of animal based foods in the nearly-100-degree temperature of the human body causes diverticulosis, diverticulitis, Crohns, colitis, ulcerative colitis, and colon cancer. Because there is no fiber in anything of animal origin, these diets also contribute to constipation.

Refined Sugar And Grains Destroy The Immune System

Refined sugar, and refined grains which convert rapidly to sugar, knock out the immune system. Sugar is an immune system suppressant and when a diet includes sugar-laden non-foods, they not make the body susceptible to colds and flu, but without the protection of a strong immune system, open the body to all manner of sickness including cancer. These foods are also highly acidic. And because there is no fiber in refined sugar or flour, these substances also contribute to constipation.

The Hallelujah Diet

There has been no diet since God’s Original Diet that has produced better health in the history of mankind than The Hallelujah Diet. For proof just look at the healing results people have experienced on the other diets we have evaluated and compare them with the healing results people experience after adopting The Hallelujah Diet. Consider also the healing results people experience after going the medical route with their physical problems versus those experienced by people who change their diet by adopting The Hallelujah Diet. It is also interesting to note that the foods served in the hospital are the same SAD foods that contribute to the poorest health. Now I will concede that God’s Original Genesis 1:29 Diet consisted of 100% raw, plant sourced foods. I will also concede that it was on this Genesis 1:29 Diet that man lived sickness-free to an average age of 912 during the first 1,700 years of biblical history, right up until the flood. There is no question that these raw, garden foods have been the very best source of nourishment for our physical bodies since creation to this very today. But having said that, in the day in which we live, I have some reservations about consuming 100% of all our plant-sourced foods in their living and raw form. Nearly 40 years of personal research and experience has brought me to the conclusion that a 100% raw, plant based diet is NOT the optimal diet for today. Nor is it the diet I would place on the top rung of our imaginary ladder because of the day in which we live. When Hallelujah Acres had its beginning in 1992, The Hallelujah Diet was indeed comprised of 100% raw, plant-sourced foods. But in some of the testimonies we received, we learned that some people were having problems with this protocol. Based upon further research and personal experience, we adjusted The Hallelujah Diet to include 15% cooked, plant-sourced foods. The addition of a small amount of cooked food corrected most of the problems people were experiencing and provided even better results than that of a 100% raw, plant-sourced diet. There have been tens-of-thousands of reports of healing as a result of adopting The Hallelujah Diet and they are, in many instances, almost miraculous.

Healing Results On The Hallelujah Diet

Ever since Hallelujah Acres had its beginning over 20 years ago, folks have been sharing with us the improved health they have personally experienced after adopting The Hallelujah Diet.
