Is Your Rice Poisoned?

Is Your Rice Poisoned?

Ever have one of those moments after you change your diet? You know... you've switched out all the harmful food in your fridge, and you're ready to get back into healthy foods — so you go to make rice. And all you've got is an aluminum rice cooker. Yup, the one you got for a wedding present that's been collecting dust ever since. This creates a problem. You want to eat healthier, but since you started learning about healthier food, you also learned that aluminum cookware isn't healthy, either. So much for the "convenient" rice cooker! We had this dilemma a while ago. We wanted to steam rice in an automatic rice cooker because we didn't want to babysit a pot of rice on the stove. But we certainly didn't want to use an old aluminum rice cooker because we know that aluminum can cause neurological problems. So, we went looking for an alternative. We looked.... and we looked. You wouldn't believe how hard it was to find a rice cooker without aluminum, Teflon, or other non-stick coatings! And then we found one — a big one! We were so impressed that we put into the Hallelujah Acres inventory so that you could have one, too. It's called the "Miracle" stainless steel rice cooker. It's awesome! It holds 8 cups of dry rice to make 12 cups of cooked rice. Yes, 12 cups; that's enough for a whole dinner party! It's stainless steel, so it won't risk your health. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and it automatically shuts off once the rice is done and keeps it warm until you're ready. Needless to say, we love this thing! Now, you can get an aluminum or Teflon-coated rice cooker for $19.95 or a large capacity one for $39.95... but do you really want your carefully selected, organic, wild rice contaminated with flecks of Teflon? Or your brain contaminated with aluminum? We didn't think so. The Miracle is priced at $79.95, but it's well worth it. There's no harmful aluminum or chemicals, it has a huge capacity, it can steam both rice and vegetables, and it even comes with a warranty. We don't usually promote appliances outright like this, but we thought that this one deserved a shout out. We're truly impressed with ours, and you can get yours here. Sushi? Pilaf?
