Going on vacation with your family requires a lot of planning. Between choosing where you'll stay, how you'll get there and which tourist attractions you'll try, you have plenty decisions to make. Most people will also search for greasy fast foods joints and restaurants to dine at, but not you. As a follower of the Hallelujah Diet, you need to strategically plan how you'll consume healthy meals before heading to your destination.
But don't worry - it's easier than you think. Here are a few ways to beat the SAD system while traveling:
Start Meal Planning
As a Hallelujah Diet follower, it may be challenging to find dietary options that align with your preferences while you're on vacation. How can you make certain you won't give in to those unhealthy processed foods while you're out and about? Scott Laird, former editor of the Hallelujah Diet Health News magazine, has the answer: Plan your meals before you leave.
"Get out your laptop or pen and paper and literally plan every meal before you leave," he said. "It takes some effort, but if you don't do it, you run the risk of giving in to temptation and wishing you hadn't. It also helps to keep the kids from being tempted to beg for the ice cream that everyone else is eating."
Before booking your hotel room, you may even want to consider a suite with a kitchen. This allows you to do all the Hallelujah Diet meal preparation you would normally do at home, and you won't have to worry about making decisions at restaurants.
Pack the Essentials
Meal planning for your vacation is important, but remembering to pack your BarleyMax is even more critical. Bring the canister if you can, or just fill a plastic bag with the right amount of servings per person, per day.
In addition to the BarleyMax, pack a variety of snacks for yourself and your children. We suggest unsulfured dried fruits, organic snack crackers and Hallelujah Acres Survival Bars.
Go on a Shopping Trip
Once you've settled at your destination, take your meal plan and head to the grocery store. In Julie Wandling's book "Healthy Kids," she recommended buying berries and grapes for snacks as well as plenty of lettuce and assorted vegetables for salads.
"Take your meal plan and head to the grocery store."
"Raw almond butter and sugarless jelly with sprouted grain bread is great for the kids' lunches," she said.
She also suggested buying organic chips, as your kids might be inclined to stray away from the traditional snacks of the diet while on vacation. At least with an organic option, you can ensure they're not eating processed, conventional snacks that are harmful.
Search for Restaurants with Vegetarian Options
If you don't have a hotel suite with a kitchen, find vegetarian restaurants near your vacation spot. If you're staying at a resort or theme park, simply ask the concierge where you can find foods that cater to your raw preferences. Most restaurants will offer a salad bar, which can allow you to follow God's Original Diet with ease.
Following the Hallelujah Diet while you're on vacation might seem difficult, but it doesn't have to be. Don't throw away your healthy eating habits only to bring home guilt and a digestive issue. Let the Lord guide you to eat as primarily raw as possible, no matter where you're traveling.
