What do Type II diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, irritable bowel syndrome, liver dysfunction, anemia, numbness and tingling, and athlete's foot all have in common? They have all been eliminated on the Hallelujah diet. Perhaps, the most amazing aspect of all this is that I do not have to worry about the debilitating complications that accompany diabetes with time.

I have been a Registered Nurse for over 12 years working as a Critical Care RN in ICU as a Cardiac Nurse. In this capacity, therefore, I see a lot of sickness, pain and anguish from patients struggling to regain their health. The patients who touch me most are the diabetics, because I have diabetes in my family. Needless to say, as I became more knowledgeable as a Nurse and as a Christian I decided to make efforts to take better care of myself in order to avoid becoming a diabetic. I see diabetics as a group of patients that keep coming to the healthcare facilities repeatedly, seeking help to manage their disease. They keep coming, get worse and worse, until they finally come to die, most of the time prematurely from the complications of this terrible disease. This is very much like the situation with the woman with the issue of blood. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood 12 years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. Mark 5:25-27.

The typical diabetic who has had the disease for over 5 years is on at least 6-12 medications and has a least 4-6 specialists on his or her case when hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit. The Endocrinologist, the Nephrologist, the Hematologist, the Pulmonologist, the Gastroenterologist, the Neurologist, the Cardiologist, the surgeon, the Wound Care specialist and sometimes the Psychiatrist, for all the complications that arise. These complications can be peripheral vascular disease, MI, diabetic foot ulcers, leg and foot amputations, retinopathy, neuropathy, gastro paresis, renal insufficiency, obesity, hypertension, CAD, high cholesterol levels, Congestive heart failure and a host of other medical conditions. Believe you me, I have seen enough leg/foot revascularizations and grafts that do not take and patients end up with amputations. The typical diabetic can end up with one leg amputated and the other leg with cellulitis/abscess wound that does not heal, so eventually you see double amputations. I came to find out through my own personal experience that so much sickness and pain need not happen if we follow God's Natural Health plan. Nature is God's physician. Te pure air, the glad sunshine, exercise, temperance, adequate rest, proper diet, pure water and trust in divine power, these are the true remedies, as stated by the Inspirational writer Ellen G. White in the book "The Ministry of Healing."

How did I come to find out, know what do and how to apply these principles to regain my health? I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 1995, along with hypertension, hyperlipidemia and a year later developed irritable bowel syndrome and a lactic acidosis as side effects of the medications that I was taking to control my diabetes, in addition to the fact that I was putting on weight rapidly from having to eat at least 4-5 times a day. Even though I was exercising and trying very hard to get my blood glucose levels under control I was failing miserably. In 1996 I went on Insulin, and I was taking at least 50 units of Insulin a day (Ultralente and Humalog injections) and I was to check my blood sugar at least 5 times a day. I was receiving treatment for hypertension (taking Zestril 10 mg daily) but my blood pressure was still high. I also was experiencing other symptoms such as insomnia, blurred vision and swollen feet if my blood sugar stayed high for too long, nerve damage, allergies, a continuous dry cough in my throat that no antibiotic or cough medicine would get rid of, malaise and fatigue, stomach bloating, elevated liver enzymes, cardiomegalyl, heart rate around 100 and whenever I put myself on the cardiac monitor I would see my heart rhythm in ischemia (inadequate blood flow to my cardiac tissues). My Hemoglobin/Hematocrit levels were also dropping so I had to start taking Fe pills and I was taking one Aspirin a day (supposedly to thin by blood and to help reduce my risks for heart attack). I knew I was very sick and yet did not know what to do, all my expertise and knowledge as a Critical Care Nurse, taking care of patients, teaching others to take care of their diabetes and their heart conditions were not helping me.

I started praying; Lord what am I going to do? I cannot live like this. I am less than 50 years old and if I continue to live with disease, I will not live to be 60. Diabetes is a debilitating disease that affects all your bodily organs and systems. I was scared and worried about it. I was desperate and helpless. I started looking at the herbs recommended in Back to Eden by Jethro Kloss for diabetes, hypertension, liver dysfunction and obesity, went to the Health food store and started applying some of the herbs such as chickweed, bay leaves, dandelion root, milk thistle, golden seal, etc.. I also started going for Acupuncture treatments and using Essential oils. Initially these modalities seemed to be helping me, but minimally. I started picking up reading articles from the Health food store, most of them emphasized cleansing, like the author would say, if you have diabetes, cleanse your body, if you have heart disease, cleanse your body, if you have arthritis, cleanse your body. I was therefore impressed that I needed to find out more about this cleansing. I started reading about other herbs and supplements. Then, somewhere in the midst of all this, friends I go to church with gave me the Hallelujah diet. The rest from there is history.
