Teaching the World about Biblical Health

On November 16, 2023, Rev. George H. Malkmus, Lit.D. went home to be with his Lord and Savior.

Early July 20th, Pastor Malkmus went outside to check the sprinklers, missing a step, falling, and hitting his head and shoulder on the concrete porch pad. The fall resulted in a concussion and a broken right shoulder in two places which the doctor set and advised against surgery. Due to a potential head injury, he spent the night in the hospital where doctors and staff marveled at his incredible health. He went back home the next day.

George’s recovery seemed to be going well, and he was released from Home Health Care to continue the therapies on his own. Then suddenly he began to go down-hill rather quickly causing a rapid deterioration of this health. He ultimately passed peacefully while resting at home with his wife, Rhonda, and daughter, Lynda by his side. A private funeral for him was held at Ruth’s Chapel, a small chapel on the grounds of his home church, Turning Point at Calvary.

Rev. Malkmus was certainly a pioneer in the health industry. His “You Don’t Have to be Sick” message has been heard around the world. It has left its mark on a countless numbers of lives.

Thank you for the love and support you have shown Rev. Malkmus, Rhonda, and their ministry over the 30-plus years he has been preaching the health message.

A celebration of life is being planned to provide an opportunity to honor and recognize his efforts.

George H. Malkmus, Jr. was born in Yonkers, New York on Feb. 12, 1934 to George H. Malkmus, Sr., and Eva (Orkins) Malkmus.  George graduated from Gorton, High School in Yonkers, New York in 1952.  He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War.

Following His Calling

After becoming a Christian at a Billy Graham Crusade Rally in Madison Square Garden, in New York City in May 29, 1957, George attended Moody Bible Institute and graduated from Elohim Bible Institute.

During his nearly 20 years of ministry, George founded two churches and pastored four churches in New York, North Carolina and Florida. In 1970, he founded his biggest church, the Greater Glens Falls Bible Baptist Church in Glens Falls, New York -- a church that grew in six years from nothing to over 600 members.

He also founded a Christian School and Bible Institute as part of that ministry and a radio program entitled “America Needs Christ.”

However, at the peak of his ministry, at age 42, he was faced with a life threatening physical problem. He had recently lost his mother to colon cancer and now he was facing the same condition. His mother, a registered nurse, accepted the traditional medical treatment of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery with devastating results.

Because of his mother’s bad experience with the medical modalities, Rev. Malkmus sought an alternative. In his search he contacted a friend, Evangelist Lester Roloff, who encouraged him to change his diet rather than accept the traditional medical treatments. Overnight, he changed his diet and almost immediately began to get well. Within one year, not only was his cancer gone but also gone were all of his other physical problems.

As a result of this experience, he studied and researched diet and lifestyle from a Biblical perspective. Based on his research and experience, he and his wife, Rhonda, began Hallelujah Acres in 1992 as a Christian Health Ministry to help alleviate the suffering they were seeing in the lives of so many people. Their goal was to help lead people away from the world’s diet and back to God’s original Genesis 1:29 diet.  They brought new hope and health to multitudes with the message, “God’s Way to Ultimate Health.”

Reaching the World with the Health Message

Rev. Malkmus took his ministry to the world with seminars, newsletters, books, tapes, radio and television appearances.

  • This included the 700 Club, TBN, ABC Nightline, The Food Network, and numerous appearances on Fox News.
  • For years Rev. Malkmus published Back to the Garden, a free magazine read by over a half-million people.
  • In 1997 he published a free weekly electronic Health Tip.
  • His books – Why Christians Get Sick, God’s Way to Ultimate Health, and You Don’t Have to Be Sick! A Christian Health Primer, The Hallelujah Diet and The Hallelujah Diet Workbook, created an incredible impact. People wrote daily, to express how the ministry had changed their lives.

While he was writing his books and publications, he established a training program for Health Ministers to help spread the Health Message in their churches and communities. Some 9,000 people from all walks of life (doctors, registered nurses, pastors, chiropractors, lay
people, etc.) completed this training program and are in every state in the United States and in 46 foreign countries.  In honor of all his work, on behalf of the Christian Community, he had an honorary doctorate in Literature bestowed upon him from Louisiana Baptist
Seminary in Shreveport, Louisiana.
