In July of 1998, my daughter Sarah started having shooting pains in her legs, for which she was taking Ibuprofen for the pain, but it continued to get worse, so the doctor put her on stronger medication.
Within just a few weeks after starting the stronger drugs, her stomach was bothering her so much that on the way home from her 17th birthday she was doubled over in the back of the van in pain. It was a long process of tests and the doctors could not figure out what was wrong with her. She was 5' 10' tall, and down to 100 pounds, while not being able to stand, even to take a shower.
We admitted her into the hospital and the tests confirmed she had Crohn's disease. By this time, she had already missed the first semester of her junior year in high school, and now she was on IV steroids. The steroids caused her to eat with a frenzy, eating eight eggs at a time, along with whole pans of Krispie treats, which were her favorite. She had a moon face, and mood swings, yet she was determined to make it to school for her second semester.
We did get her off the drugs, but her stomach was never right. Then in July 1999, exactly a year after she started to get sick, she started sinking again. This time, we tried alternatives, but she ended up back on the steroids. I was overwhelmed with what was happening to our daughter, and in utter despair of the situation.
It was at this time that the Lord had me attend a potluck at a friend's home in Orlando. It was a Hallelujah Diet potluck, and I decided to personally try the diet. But my daughter Sarah and my husband were not interested. And it was hard to stay on the diet, because I was cooking differently for my husband and daughter, and it was so easy for me to 'cheat' a little, especially at the evening meal.
In January 2000, Dr. Malkmus came to Palm Bay to do a seminar. I went early so that I could speak with him, because I hadn't heard any testimonies of people being helped with Crohn's disease on the Hallelujah Diet. Thank you, George, for talking to me that evening. My family also came with me that evening, and when we got home, to my surprise, both my husband and Sarah were ready to start the
diet.
Within four weeks of starting the Hallelujah Diet, Sarah was off all her medications! Previously we had tried to take her off the steroids, and every time we tried to decrease them she felt like she needed more. Yet, after starting the Hallelujah Diet, every few days she felt she had to decrease the steroids. The doctor had also put her on Zoloft because the Prednisone was making her so mentally depressed. The doctor felt that she should continue to take the Zoloft for at least a year, but she took herself off
within that same four-week period.
It has now been over two years since she made the diet change and she has been in Bible College since September of 2000. I look at her and am in awe of how God made our bodies to heal themselves, and how wonderful that He not only healed Sarah through the Hallelujah Diet, but that as a Health Minister, God brings people into my life continuously, and what a joy it is to see the diet work for them also.
My favorite verse of scripture is Hebrews 12:1 . . . the 'cloud of witnesses' being all those who embrace this lifestyle of putting God first and all of us encouraging each other to continue, by leaving behind the 'sin' of putting harmful things into our body, and running the race with endurance. That endurance becomes such a joy as making the right food choices becomes exciting and fun, because you feel so good!
