ROOTED IN GENESIS 1:29 · 30+ YEARS OF RESULTS
What is the
Hallelujah Diet?
A biblical, whole-food approach to health that starts with a simple question:
what did God
design the human body to run on? The answer has been changing
lives for over 30 years.
WHERE THIS BEGAN
In 1976, Rev. George Malkmus received a diagnosis that changed everything. Colon cancer. The kind of news that narrows your world to a single question: What do I do now?
He didn't reach for a protocol. He reached for his Bible.
What he found in Genesis 1:29 was something he'd read many times before — but never as instruction. God had described, in the very first chapter of Scripture, the foods He provided for the human body. George took that literally. He changed everything about how he ate. Raw vegetables, fresh fruit, seeds, nuts — food that came from the earth rather than from a package.
The tumor disappeared.
He spent the next four decades sharing what happened. Not as a miracle he could guarantee, but as a discovery he couldn't keep to himself. Tens of thousands of people tried it. The results kept coming back the same: the body responds when you give it what it was designed to receive.
In 1992, that mission became the Hallelujah Diet — a formal organization built around these same biblical principles George had been teaching for nearly two decades. Paul and Ann Malkmus carry that same conviction forward today. The science has deepened. The products have refined. The foundation hasn’t moved.

"Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed — to you it shall be for food."
Genesis 1:29WHAT IT ACTUALLY SAYS
Not a diet. A way of thinking about food.
The Hallelujah Diet isn't a weight loss program. It isn't a detox. It isn't a set of rules about what you can and can't eat. It's a way of thinking about food that starts with a single question: what did God design the human body to run on?
The answer, according to Genesis 1:29, is whole plants. Fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts — food that contains the enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients the body needs to do what it was built to do. Repair, restore, protect, and thrive.
The Standard American Diet — processed foods, refined sugars, industrial seed oils, chemically treated produce — doesn't just fail to nourish. It actively burdens the body. Inflammation builds. Cells go undernourished. The body begins expressing that deficit in ways we've come to accept as normal: fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, digestive problems, stubborn weight.
These aren't inevitable. They're often the consequence of inputs the body was never designed to process. The Hallelujah Diet removes those inputs and replaces them with what the body is asking for — not all at once, not through willpower, but through a simple principle: add first, replace naturally, and let the old habits fade as the new ones take hold.
HOW IT WORKS IN PRACTICE
Raw living foods
Fresh vegetables, fruit, seeds, nuts, sprouts, and freshly extracted juices. These are living foods — their enzymes intact, their nutrients dense and bioavailable, their fiber feeding the microbiome. This is where the cellular transformation happens.
Cooked whole plants
A warm, satisfying cooked meal at the end of the day — whole grains, legumes, roasted vegetables, soups, stews. This isn't a concession or a compromise. It's part of the design. A lifestyle that never allows you to feel full and satisfied isn't a lifestyle. It's a sentence.
Juicing — the delivery system
When you extract juice from vegetables, you remove most of the fiber and concentrate the nutrients into a form the body can absorb quickly and efficiently. BarleyMax — our signature green juice powder — was developed for exactly this: the nutritional density of fresh vegetable juice in seconds, every morning, wherever you are.
WHY FAITH MATTERS HERE
Stewardship, not performance.
The Hallelujah Diet isn’t a Christian diet in the sense of requiring belief to follow. But it was born from faith, and for most people who find it, faith is the reason it sticks.
Scripture doesn’t just provide the dietary foundation in Genesis 1:29. It provides the motivational framework. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Caring for it isn’t vanity — it’s stewardship. What you put in it, how you treat it, how you honor the design God placed in it from the beginning — these are acts of worship.
That framing changes everything. A diet motivated by fear or vanity tends to collapse under pressure. A lifestyle motivated by stewardship and gratitude tends to deepen over time. The people who stay with the Hallelujah Diet for years consistently describe it not as something they endure but as something they’ve come to see as an expression of their faith.
We hold this lightly. We don’t promise healing. We don’t suggest that illness is a sign of insufficient faith. God is the healer. We are the stewards. What we do is give the body the conditions it was designed to thrive in — and then trust the One who designed it.
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."
1 Corinthians 6:19–20Our posture on healing:
We do our part in stewardship. God remains our ultimate healer and source of hope. We offer tools, not promises — and we hold the outcomes with open hands.
PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION
You don't have to go all the way on day one.
The Hallelujah Diet was never meant to be an all-or-nothing proposition. The people who thrive on this approach are rarely the ones who went all the way on day one. They're the ones who started somewhere — one juice a day, one plant-based meal, one week of trying something different — and discovered that the body responded faster than they expected.
Eighty-five percent raw is a goal, not a gate. You don't have to be perfect to begin. You just have to begin.
"Ann and I carry this conviction forward not as a protocol but as a genuine belief — that the body God gave you is capable of far more than you've been told. We've seen it too many times to think otherwise."
