On March 4, 2014, HealthDay News reported the following: "Millions of middle-aged Americans chow down each day on steaks, cheeseburgers and other protein-rich fare. Now two studies find that diets high in meat and cheese, when eaten in middle age, might shorten people's life spans."
The research shows that a low-protein diet in middle age is useful for preventing cancer and overall mortality ," study co-author Eileen Crimmins, the AARP Chair in Gerontology at the University of Southern California, said in a university news release. The findings were published March 4 in the journal Cell Metabolism In the study, the researchers looked at data on more than 6,800 middle-aged and older adults in the United States. They found that 50-year-olds who got more than 20 percent of their calories from animal protein -- mainly meat or dairy products -- had a fourfold increased risk of death from cancer or diabetes. And they had a nearly twofold increased risk of death from any cause over the next 18 years, compared to people on more low-protein regimens. Even middle-aged people who consumed only "moderate" levels of animal protein had a threefold increased risk of death from cancer, the researchers reported. This increased risk of death was much lower or non-existent in 50-year-olds who ate a diet high in protein sourced mainly from plants, the researchers added. "The majority of Americans are eating about twice as much protein as they should, and it seems that the best change would be to lower the daily intake of all proteins but especially animal-derived proteins," at least in middle age, study senior author Dr. Valter Longo, of the University of Southern California, said in the university news release. A second study, this time conducted in mice, found that a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet shortened the rodents' lifespan. Overall, the findings provide "convincing evidence that a high-protein diet -- particularly if the proteins are derived from animals -- is nearly as bad as smoking for your health," Longo said in a journal news release. He was the senior author of the study conducted in humans.”
I am going to begin by making a statement, and before we conclude dealing with this subject I believe you will AGREE with what I am about to say... That is, you will agree with me IF you will allow your mind to be challenged with truth, and if after your mind has been challenged with truth, you are willing to ACCEPT and APPLY that truth:
"Animal flesh and dairy are among the most dangerous and destructive foods one can consume, and the cause of many of the physical problems and shortened lives people experience!"
I can already hear the howls of protest as person after person retorts:
“But we need to eat the flesh of animals to get our protein, to build muscles, and to obtain strength. Rev. Malkmus, how can you make such a statement when the nutritional experts tell us it is an absolute necessity that we consume high protein animal flesh and dairy to be properly nourished?”
In response to your question, hold onto your hats, for if you are willing to continue reading, you are going to have opportunity to challenge some things you have been programmed with since your earliest remembrance. Here is the first question for your consideration...

Are We Instinctively Carnivores?

Place a child in a room with only a chicken and an apple for food. When the child gets hungry, will the child instinctively chase the chicken until it catches it, and then sink its teeth into its feathers and flesh, and consume that flesh raw, along with the blood and guts of that chicken? Or rather, will the child instinctively eat the apple and play with the chicken? If man was designed by God to eat animal flesh, would there not be a natural killer instinct built into him, to chase down and eat the chicken, or any other animal for that matter? Now, place a fox in an enclosure with only a chicken and an apple for food. Will the fox sit down and eat the apple and romp with the chicken? Or rather, will the fox not chase the chicken until it catches it, and then instinctively tear into its flesh and eat the flesh, and blood, and guts of that chicken while ignoring the apple? In nature, we find basically two kinds of animals – carnivores and herbivores! And you will find that each, in nature, will instinctively seek out the food God designed each to be nourished with – carnivores will seek out and eat the flesh of another animal, while herbivores will seek out and consume only plant foods.

How Can We Tell If An Animal Is A Carnivore or Herbivore?

One way you can tell what foods an animal was designed by God to consume is by looking into its mouth and examining its teeth, as well as by observing a few other obvious differences:


As you can clearly see from the above, humans are herbivores by Gods design. In fact, humans are the exact opposite of a carnivore. Some may claim that we are omnivores (designed to consume both animal flesh and plant sourced foods), but you will find the profile of an omnivore to be almost identical to that of a carnivore. Herbivores eat no flesh, while most carnivores eat some plants. If you take a look at the teeth of a lion or a cat you see what fangs look like – and no, humans do not have them! In order for humans to experience the health and longevity God designed their physical body to enjoy, they must consume the foods God designed their physical bodies to be nourished with. And God made it abundantly clear what foods humans were to consume in Genesis 1:29:
“And GOD said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed: to you it shall be for food.”
There is no animal flesh or dairy to be found in God’s Genesis 1:29 diet my friend! And may I ask: “Who would better know what foods our physical bodies were designed to be nourished with, than the very Creator of this physical body?” And God did create the human physical body:
  • “So God created man (Genesis 1:27)
  • And God blessed them (verse 28)
  • And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed (verse 29)
  • And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31)
According to the Scriptures, God was very pleased with both his human and plant creations, and interestingly, man did not consume the flesh of an animal until some 1,700 years after God exiled man from the Garden of Eden. And of further interest, during those 1,700 years (from the expulsion from the garden until Noah’s flood) while living on a 100% plant-based Genesis 1:29 diet, there is not a single recorded instance of sickness, and man lived to an average age of 912 years. Now, look very carefully at what the circumstances were under which God gave man permission to consume the flesh of an animal for the very first time?
“And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth: and all the high hills that were under the whole heaven were covered.” ~ Genesis 7:19
Clearly, it was only after all garden foods had been destroyed by the flood waters that God gave man permission to consume the flesh of an animal in Genesis 9:3. It is obvious to me that this permission by God to consume the flesh of the clean animals on the ark was for survival purposes and not an indication that God now wanted His human creation to become carnivores. Friend, take a moment and look at your teeth and your nails. Do you have the teeth and nails of a carnivorous animal? It would be good if you just took a moment to examine again the chart above, and see just how many characteristics your body has that are similar to those of a carnivore.

We Can Learn Much From Nature

For humans, food is our fuel and building materials, and when we consume flesh or dairy, we are placing into our glorious God made physical bodies substances the body has great difficulty dealing with, and that literally make us sick. With just a little understanding of physiology, one can quickly understand what foods we should allow to enter our body, and what foods items we should avoid. Animals in the wild have obviously not lost the natural instincts God placed within them when He created them. Sadly, MAN HAS! Carnivores usually eat very sporadically, once a day at most, and then sleep or remain inactive most of the rest of the day. This allows the carnivore time to digest and excrete the putrefactive waste meat produces. Herbivores on the other hand eat often and remain awake and active most of the day. Carnivores die very young if you compare their longevity to that of herbivores. The flesh of animals and plant source foods are utilized and decompose very differently within the body, and this provides another clear indication of which foods each animal creation was designed by God to consume. Plant materials decompose into basic chemical elements, while flesh rots as it decays. Carnivorous animals have very short intestines (about 3 times their body length) to allow for the rapid removal of the flesh from the body before putrefaction sets in. Herbivores have a very long intestine (10 to 12 times their body length). This long intestine allows for the absorption of the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytochemicals, etc., the plant-sourced foods contain. When humans consume the flesh of an animal, because it contains no fiber (as plant sourced foods do) it moves very sluggishly through the 30-feet of intestines, and in an almost 100 degree atmosphere, putrefies. This rotting flesh in the intestinal tract of humans not only is the cause of body odor, but the cause of a myriad of physical problems, including IBS, colitis, ulcerative colitis, crones, diverticulitis, diverticulosis, colon cancer, and the list goes on.

Health Requires We Align Our Body With God's Creation

If we desire the health God designed our physical bodies to experience, we must align our body with its biological and physiological make up. Clearly, when we look at the physical body we each possess, we see a body that was designed by God to be nourished exclusively with plant source foods. And when we look around us, we clearly see the consequences in physical breakdown man experiences as a result of eating foods found outside of the garden – especially when man consumes lots of animal sourced foods. If we want to improve our health, and experience the health God designed for these physical bodies we each possess, we must bring what we eat in line with our physiological make up, and what God told us we should eat in Genesis 1:29. For far too long, the Christian community has tried to emulate the world’s eating habits. Christians have accepted the teachings of this world’s nutritionists, who are just as sick as the people they are teaching. Almost everyone today is falling into the common ditch of sickness, both Christian and non-Christian, because each have left God’s instruction as to what they were to consume for food. It is only those who have returned to eating exclusively garden foods who are escaping the physical ills of our day. We need to realize that it is only when man stops consuming animal sourced foods, both flesh and dairy, that we will be able to eliminate most of the diseases that are making mankind sick and causing early and untimely deaths! The following physical problems are all caused by the consuming of animal sourced foods:
  • heart attacks
  • strokes
  • cancers
  • diabetes
  • arthritis
  • asthma
  • osteoporosis
  • acid stomach
  • heartburn
  • ... and the list goes on
Today’s scientists and researchers are looking for cures for cancer and heart disease and for the obesity epidemic overwhelming our meat and dairy consuming world. Unfortunately, until man aligns himself with God’s Genesis 1:29 diet and with the natural laws we observe in nature, all the money spent on searching for solutions to our physical ills will be in vain.
