Alzheimer's Study Downplays Antioxidants

Avoiding Alzheimer's Reading Alzheimer's Study Downplays Antioxidants 2 minutes Next Avoiding Alzheimer's
In our research about Alzheimer's for this week's blog post we came across a CBS News report from earlier this year. The study said that antioxidant supplements were ineffective against the condition. If that's all you read about the story, you'd get the mistaken impression that antioxidants do nothing to keep your brain healthy. And that's entirely incorrect. However, the story went on to quote a doctor in charge of the Mayo Clinic's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center who said, "It may very well be that we have to intervene with these types of therapies much earlier." This we can agree with. In fact, it's not even about "intervening" after the fact with a isolated antioxidant supplements, it's about preventing the condition in the first place with antioxidant rich whole foods. To this end, the story mentioned 7 conditions that raised one's risk of Alzheimer's, and several of them were undeniably diet related: diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure. Lesson? Reverse the symptoms of these simpler problems and you'll prevent bigger ones. This is why The Hallelujah Diet promotes a no-junk, plant-based diet loaded with naturally-occurring antioxidants alongside all of the other nutrients that antioxidants need to do what they do best. No matter what the physical problem, people tell us that taking out the junk and increasing good foods works! But don't take it from us...
"I was overweight, tired all of the time, and was suffering from depression and had cloudy thinking. My parents both had Alzheimer's and I just figured that these symptoms were the beginning of mine. I was taking 10 medications. Within just 6 weeks of starting The Hallelujah Diet, I was off all my medications and have had no headaches since starting the diet three years ago. By month four, I had taken my last allergy shot. In 6 months I had lost 50 pounds, and all of my other physical problems were completely gone. I now have fingernails, lot's of energy, and am excited about life!" ~ Paula
